Quick hold’em tips for beginners

1. In Hold Em, Never play a hand that is not a pair, or can't make a flush or a straight. So A7o or J3o are out.
2. Play very tight if you think you will have to play the hand out of position. This is true for any form of poker, not just Hold Em.
3. Always try to be the one betting or raising, not calling. There are exceptions to this but not many.
4. Make sure to not overvalue draws, especially with only one card to come.
5. In Holdem, make sure that your preflop raising range is not too static. Occasionally mix in hands like 67s and Qjo, as well as more traditional raising hands like AK QQ or AA.
6. In any form of poker, never try and bluff the unbluffable!
7. Always go after as many "orphan pots as possible". An orphan pot is one in which no one has yet expressed an interest.
8. When playing any form of poker, don't try and go against the tide. If you are playing loose bad players, don't try and bluff them too much. Against tight players try and get them to lay down hands from time to time, don't try and out rock them!
